Porcelain Veneers for a Great Smile

If your teeth would benefit from a change in their color, shape, size or position, porcelain veneers may be your answer. With porcelain veneers, spaces between teeth can be closed, short teeth can be lengthened, misshapen teeth can be made to look normal, dark teeth can be whitened and teeth that are out of alignment can be corrected.

The veneer is a thin piece of porcelain that becomes very strong when Dr. Sterling bonds it to your tooth. The veneer blends with the underlying tooth so that it is undetectable to the eye and looks, feels and functions like a natural tooth.

Tooth-Colored or Silver-Mercury Fillings?

You no longer have to settle for dark silver-mercury fillings your mouth. Dr Sterling can replace your worn, leaking or simply unattractive gray or black fillings with state-of-the-art tooth colored restorations. Made of a glass reinforced resin matrix, these "composite" fillings bond to and strengthen your teeth and give them that "never had a cavity" appearance. They are especially suitable for smaller cavities and for patients with metal allergies.

Cosmetic Porcelain Crowns and Onlays

Most people have teeth that have been restored with silver-mercury or composite resin fillings. There often comes a time when damage to a tooth is too extensive to hold such a filling. Restorations must then be done that will attach to remaining tooth structure, replace what has been lost, withstand normal chewing forces and still satisfy your esthetic concerns.

Porcelain crowns and onlays and metal castings covered with porcelain can satisfy both strength and cosmetic needs.

Feel free to call us at (650) 368-6102 if you have any questions or wish to make an appointment.

Cosmetic Bonding

Bonding is related to dental veneers in that teeth are changed by having a thin tooth-colored resin covering placed, sculpted and shaped to create teeth that are more beautiful.

With esthetic dental bonding, Dr. Sterling can close spaces between your teeth, correct crooked or malformed teeth, remove stains and change tooth color. A single tooth can be redone or an entire smile enhanced.

Gum Disease (Periodontal Disease)

Periodontal or gum disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. It is a leading cause of tooth loss in American adults. It has also been linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other health problems.

Plaque is the sticky film of bacteria that is brushed and flossed away with proper oral care. When left on the teeth, plaque produces toxins that attack below the gum line in the sulcus, a shallow v-shaped crevice between the tooth and gums. This causes the bond between teeth and gums to break down. In the early stage of gum disease (gingivitis), gums may become red and swollen and bleed easily. In the more advanced stage (periodontal disease), teeth can loosen and fall out.

Good oral hygiene and regular dental examinations are essential in the prevention and early detection of gum disease – especially since you can have it without experiencing any warning signs. We offer expert teeth cleaning by our experienced certified hygenists.

Dental Implants

Dental implants provide a stable base for replacement teeth that look, feel and work like natural teeth. With dental implants, a person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat and smile with confidence. Implants can replace one tooth or several missing teeth.

When a single tooth is missing from your mouth a dental implant can be placed and then restored to return you to a full complement of teeth. This restoration, a single-tooth implant crown, will look, work and feel like a healthy natural tooth. Brushing and flossing is the same as for natural teeth, requiring no special tool as is needed for a bridge. Another important benefit of the implant over a bridge is that the implant can stand alone, not requiring preparation of neighboring teeth as is done with a bridge.

While implants require excellent oral hygiene they cannot decay and have a history of long term success.

Placing Dental Implants

At Sterling Dental Care we conduct a thorough assessment of the patient's medical and dental history, including a complete examination of the mouth and areas of missing teeth; necessary radiographs are also taken.

Subsequent to these evaluations a comprehensive treatment plan, including alternative treatment plans, when appropriate, can be created for your considerations. After choosing the best course of treatment for your situation, dental implant can be surgically placed after insuring you are comfortable under local anesthesia.

After allowing sufficient time for the implant to become firmly anchored, the dental implant(s) is used to support a crown, bridge or denture.

Sedation Dentistry

Patients who are uncomfortable with needles and drills, who have sensitive teeth or gums, or who have a strong gag reflex can be helped with dental sedation. After one pill or injection, many patients feel no discomfort whatsoever during and after treatment. They often have little or no memory of the visit. Another benefit is that extensive treatment can be done in one or two appointments, including whitening yellow or stained teeth, replacing crowns or dentures, fixing chipped or damaged teeth, and restoring sore gums to good health.

Call us at (650) 368-6102 to see if these procedures are right for you.
